Pattern Altering

I took on a custom request recently that required quite a bit of pattern altering. My cloth diapers and diaper covers are made to fit babies but I was asked if I could make it in an adult size for a handicapped individual. I decided to give it a go! The best method I thought would work was the 'slash and spread' method. You basically cut your pattern and spread it to the desired size. I worked one size at a time, creating not only the adult size but all the sizes in between. I can essentially offer my cloth diapers in toddler, child, etc. now. I'm so glad I took on this challenge which helped not only my knowledge grow but also my business!

Unplugged Challenge Schedule- October/November 2013

Did you all see my post about unplugging this morning? You can hop on over HERE and check it out if you need to or look up top along the tabs to find what you need.

Since October is almost over I thought I'd go ahead and plan out next month too. These are the days I plan to unplug... no computer, cell phone, TV, etc. You can unplug on the days I do or pick your own days.

I'm planning on Wednesdays with Sundays being my 'bonus' days...

Wednesday, October 30th

Wednesdays in November: 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th.

Bonus Sundays in November: 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th.

Good luck and let me know how you're doing, struggles, tips, tricks, etc!

Unplugged Challenge!

Have you ever thought about unplugging.. turning off your computer, TV, and cell phone..just for a day? Did you ever wonder if you could survive without those things? Do you even remember when no one had them and what they did all day without them?

I have wanted to challenge myself to unplug for awhile now but I keep putting it off for another day (or week). I stay home and I get so fed up with myself when I realize all my time has been sucked away. I've considered completely doing away with my facebook page for that very reason but I don't think I could do that! And I wonder if I could really survive without checking my email or updating facebook or vegging out in front of the TV or texting just for a day and I wonder how much I could accomplish for that day. Well, I'm about to find out!

And, I challenge you... to join me in unplugging one day a week!

Leave the computer off, those emails can wait and if someone really needs you then they can pick up the phone. Turn off the TV, give yourself a little media and commercial break. Don't check your cell phone, turn it off all together or mute it. If you only have a cell phone and not a land line then turn off the bells and whistles that alert you to texts and emails. Resist the urge to check your phone for those texts or emails. *If you can't shut it all off then work and school will be the only reasons to use the computer.

I will post a schedule every month for the days each week that I'll be unplugging. You are welcome to unplug on those days too or pick days that you would prefer.

So what are you going to do on the days you unplug?

Here are some suggestions (if you have anymore, let me know and I'll add them to the list)…

  • Read a book (when was the last time you read a book? Went to the library? 10 days? 10 months? 10 years? Did you even know they still have library's?)
  • If reading isn't your 'thing' then listen to a book on tape/CD (you can check those out at the library too!)
  • Work on a craft/sewing project/quilt/crochet/knit/scrapbook/woodwork/etc.
  • Do your chores (is the laundry still sitting on your bed folded or unfolded? Then go finish it...)
  • Take a walk (if it's cold then put on a coat!) or go play in the snow or ride a bike...
  • Play a game (card game/board game/peek-a-boo with the baby/etc.)
  • Write a letter (you mean people still do things like that?)
  • Start or write in a journal (see note above)
  • Is there a subject that interests you? (ancient religions/biology/mathematics) Now would be a good time to study it.
  • Take up a new hobby (photography/embroidery/model car building)
  • Plan and create an elaborate dinner for you and your honey and eat by candle light, after you put the kiddos to bed… who knows where it could lead and what special tradition you might start by taking the extra time to plan a date like this. ;)
  • Pamper yourself (do your nails/hair/make-up just for the heck of it)
Get creative!

So there you have it! Do you think you can handle it? I hope so!

Pink Damasque Purse

I was asked to pattern test the Taormina Bag by Pattern Play about a month ago. I LOVE this bag pattern! It went together really easily and there are just so many possibilities. The first purse I made features the pink and black damasque.  Pattern Play has so many neat patterns to choose from. I highly recommend!

Knitted Dishcloths

I love, love, love to make knitted dishcloths! It's the only thing I use in my kitchen. I knit during those down times in the evening or here and there so I'm not really spending a ton of time. I would like to invest more time in learning other knitting skills but for now this is all I can manage.

The pattern I used for these is the Basic Knitted Dishcloth found on Ravelry. It's a super easy pattern and great for beginners! I definitely can't wait to make more. :)

Happy 4th Birthday, Jameson!

I can't believe it, but it's true, my little guy is already 4! It seems like just yesterday that he joined our family. It's been fun watching his little personalty come out. He is very bright, loves going to preschool to learn new things and make new friends. He loves telling jokes. His favorite one being, "Guess what?!?", "What?", "Chicken butt!!". Oh, I've heard it a million times probably. His favorite color is green and he loves all things construction, trains, cars, etc.

Several weeks before his birthday I decided he needed a bedroom facelift. When he was moved into the current room he has now at about a year old the room hadn't been changed or updated from when his older brother was in there. So it had the same old paint from about 8 years ago. We patched walls, painted, and painted some more! I painted the woodwork because it was so beat up and it took 4 coats. Oh, I was tired by the end! Lastly, I bought several custom vinyl wall decals from Etsy. There is grass, a sun, air planes, and all kinds of vehicles. He also has glow in the dark stars on the ceiling which he loves! The car bed was his older brothers and sort of stuck out but now everything works together and is perfect for a 4 year old boy!

We also had a little get together with our family for a birthday party. There was a whirlwind of activity and I couldn't get the best of photos. It doesn't matter though because we had fun and yummy cake and ice cream! I still can't believe he's already 4! Before I know it he'll be starting school and then be off to college....
