What is Compassion?
Is it a state of mind, a reaction, or a feeling? Are you compassionate every day or just once in a while?
Wikipedia describes Compassion as the emotion that one feels in response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help and is really the act of going out of your way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another.
It seems that we are so wrapped up in ourselves with the increased use of technology that we forget to pay attention to others. There are many people, such as Mother Teresa, who've given their whole lives in compassion of others. They've made our world a better place. But you, whoever you are, sitting at work or home right now reading this are probably not called to give your whole life up to serve others. Instead, I challenge you to just stop a minute, observe your surrounds or think of someone, and give a little compassion. Can you make a phone call to brighten some's day? Is someone struggling with carrying something or trying to get some computer thing to work? I bet you could help! It'll take you 5 minutes, tops. :)
And if you have a little time check out this TED talk on Compassion by Krista Tippett...
Did you rise to the challenge? Share with everyone how you went out of your way to help someone in the comments! :)
